The Point Isabel Independent School District oversees the operation of the network of four public schools in Port Isabel. Children starts with the Garriga Elementary School in 600 Washington St. for Grades PK-2, goes to the Derry Elementary School in 2nd and Oklahoma St. for Grades 3 to 5, moves up to Port Isabel Junior High School in Highway 100 for Grades 6 to 8 and finally, to Port Isabel High School also in Highway 100 for Grades 9 to 12. These schools have about 500 to 800 enrolled students every year.

The Point Isabel Independent School District also accommodates enrollees from the nearby towns of South Padre Island, Laguna Vista and those from Laguna Heights and Cameron County.

After their basic education, teens in Port Isabel can continue their studies in the schools operated by the South Texas Independent School District, outside Port Isabel. These include the South Texas Business Education and Technology Academy in Edinburg, the South Texas High School for Health Professions in Mercedes, the South Texas Academy of Medical Technology in San Benito and the Science Academy of South Texas, also in Mercedes.

Those who have plans to go to colleges and universities have many choices of such institutions near Port Isabel. They include the University of Texas in Brownsville, Texas A & M University in Corpus Christi, Texas State Technical College in Harlingen and South Texas Community College in McAllen.
